Privacy Policy

Effective date: [Effective date]

TraceMe is a location-sharing app. It only works if it uses your location, so this policy explains exactly what we collect, who can see it, how long we keep it and how you can delete it.

1. Who we are

TraceMe (the website traceme.live and the TraceMe apps for Android and iOS) is operated by [Company legal name], [Registered address] ("we", "us"). For any privacy question or request, write to [privacy@traceme.live].

2. What we collect

Account details

  • Your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash), or your Google or Apple sign-in identifier if you use those.
  • Your profile photo, if you add one, and your time zone.

Location

  • When location sharing is on, the app sends your phone's GPS position, speed, direction, altitude and accuracy, including while the app is in the background. This is what lets your groups see where you are.
  • If you add a GPS tracker (for example in a car), we receive that tracker's positions.
  • From these positions we work out trips, stops and arrivals at places you or your groups saved.
  • You can pause sharing at any time in the app. While paused, we do not accept new positions from your phone.

Device and usage information

  • Battery level, charging and power-saving state, so your groups know if your phone is about to go offline.
  • Device type, app version and a push-notification token, so we can send you alerts.
  • Your IP address, sign-in sessions and a security log of important account actions (sign-ins, device changes, deletions).

Things you create

  • Groups, invites, places, check-ins, SOS alerts and share links.

We do not collect your contacts, messages, photos (other than a profile photo you choose), microphone audio or advertising identifiers, and we do not sell your data.

3. How we use it

  • To show your live location and history to the people you choose (see section 4).
  • To send alerts: arrivals and departures at places, check-ins, SOS, group changes and low-battery notices.
  • To keep your account secure, prevent abuse and fix problems.
  • To send service emails such as verification, password reset, invites and account-deletion confirmations. We do not send marketing email without your consent.

4. Who can see your location

  • Your groups. Members of groups you join can see your location and battery. Group owners and admins can see all members' locations in their group.
  • Share links. Anyone with a share link you create can see the location it covers until the link expires or you stop it.
  • Nobody else. Other TraceMe users cannot find or see you unless you join their group or send them a link.

Only track another person with their knowledge and consent. Secretly tracking someone is not allowed (see our Terms).

5. Service providers we use

We share only the data each provider needs to do its job:

  • Hosting: our servers and database, run by [Hosting provider, country].
  • Sign-in: Google and Apple, if you choose to sign in with them.
  • Push notifications: Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android) and Apple Push Notification service (iOS).
  • Email delivery: our email provider, to send service emails.
  • Maps: map images are loaded from Google (Android app and website) and Apple Maps (iOS). These providers see the map area being viewed and your IP address, not your account.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.

6. How long we keep it

  • Location history: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
  • Account details, groups and places: until you delete them or your account.
  • Backups: encrypted daily backups are removed automatically within 30 days.
  • Security logs: kept as long as needed to protect accounts and meet legal duties.

7. Your choices and rights

  • Pause location sharing, leave a group or stop a share link at any time.
  • See and correct your profile in the app.
  • Delete a device and its history, or your whole account, in the app (Profile → Delete account) or at traceme.live/delete-account. Deletion is immediate.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or raise any concern, at [privacy@traceme.live]. We reply within [30] days.
  • You can also turn off location or notifications for TraceMe in your phone's settings; the app will then stop sharing.

Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law, including the right to complain to a data protection authority. Our grievance officer is [Grievance officer name, email].

8. Security

All connections use HTTPS. Passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens expire, backups are encrypted and access to servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and tell us at once if you suspect misuse.

9. Children

TraceMe is not meant for children under [13]. A parent or guardian who wants to share a child's location must set this up and remain responsible for it. If you believe a child gave us data without consent, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email before they apply.
